Venus de Milo was acquired by the French navy and presented to King Louis XVIII, who gifted her to the Louvre, where she remains today.
Dated to somewhere between 150 and 125 BC, she’s attributed to Alexandros of Antioch and blends the idealized serenity of Classical Greek sculpture with the more naturalistic detail of the Hellenistic period. Her missing arms have only added to her mystique. Countless theories, restoration attempts, and works of art have tried to answer what she once held.
This carved marble bust distills that same quiet, downward gaze and wavy center-parted hair that made the original an instant sensation upon its arrival in Paris. Fine late 19th/ early 20th century academic carving after the antique, mounted on a classical socle base.
